STAR/PAL, with the support of the San Diego Chargers and Kaiser Permanente, runs a series of Jr. Chargers Training Camps each fall throughout the County of San Diego. Each Jr. Chargers Training Camp gives approximately 100 youth participants, grades 2-8, from STAR/PAL programs, local schools, and other community youth organizations the opportunity to learn the basics of football and run drills with volunteers from various law enforcement and public safety agencies.
During the camp, youth participants hear from law enforcement officers about the importance of education, physical fitness, nutrition, and goal setting. Working with the San Diego and Sweet Water School Districts, these training camps help local youth realize what it takes to go above and beyond in order to excel and accomplish their future goals, as well as promote positive interaction between youth and local law enforcement officers in a team sport environment.
